The International Underwater Spear fishing Association (IUSA) was formed in 1950 to promote
spear fishing and to assist in scientific and spear fishing competitive efforts. As part of this task, the IUSA became the certifying body class="w3-content" and custodian of the
spear fishing world records. The IUSA has certified over 160 records for a variety of fish from
blue water species to smaller and less sought after fish. Through their fifty seven years of existence, the IUSA has seen diver's skill and technology change from the Hawaiian slings of the Pinder Brothers to the high-tech equipment and super-powered
spear guns of today's free divers.
